Young Saint John the Baptist in the Wilderness

Saint John the Baptist is one of the most familiar figures from the Christian New Testament. Although only the Gospel of Luke states that he was related to Christ, on his mother’s side, all four Gospels agree that John was born to elderly parents long thought barren. He acted as a precursor to Jesus, predicting the coming of the Messiah while baptizing the faithful in the River Jordan in preparation for his appearance.
