January 17, 2023 - April 16, 2023

On view now through April 16, 2023, this display showcases the work of Pamela C. Winegard and Zoe-Annamaria Hawkins, artists who have settled in the Shenandoah Valley and who look closely at the relationships between people and places. By bringing into focus often overlooked details and forgotten spaces, these two artists challenge the viewer to examine their community and the world at large in new ways. Sense of Place presents 32 works—16 by each artist—and all are available for purchase (for information, visit the Museum Store).

Pamela C. Winegard
The display of works by Pamela C. Winegard, a mixed-media artist and printmaker, illustrate her artistic investigation of the relationship between community and place. She explores the familiar and archetypal architecture of both urban and rural America by placing structures within the context of her own social, emotional, and aesthetic discussions.

Zoe-Annamaria Hawkins
Paintings by Zoe Hawkins exemplify her exploration of the natural world on a microcosmic level. By examining the minute details of often overlooked botanicals through the lens of bold color and form, she transforms these plants and encourages the viewer to look more closely at the world around them.
