William Tuckerman

Date: ca. 1811

William and George Washington Tuckerman were the sons of Edward Tuckerman II, a member of a prominent Boston family. Like their father, William and George Tuckerman were merchants. Also just like their father, they sat for the Dutch-born artist Gerrit Schipper early in the 1800s. A securely identified portrait of Edward Tuckerman II, painted for the family as a duplicate after Schipper’s original, is in the collection of the Worcester Art Museum (below, far left).
