R. Lee Taylor used his considerable talents to assemble this Victorian Townhouse miniature from a kit. Despite its prefabricated origins, Lee Taylor added several whimsical touches that customized its appearance. He made the miniature’s curtains and installed period wallpaper. The halls and rooms are filled with fine décor, including rare fixtures made by Handcraft Designs. He also stored broken pieces of furniture in the house’s attic – just like you might find in a real home.
Second Empire Victorian architecture was first popular in Europe during the second half of the nineteenth-century. The style’s primary features include a steep mansard-type roof, wrought iron cresting along the roof line, dormer windows, a square turret or tower, and decorated roof and porch brackets. This style of architecture later caught on in the United States, inspiring the design of many homes, public buildings, and this miniature.
