This sofa follows a fashionable design that furniture designer Thomas Sheraton first published in 1802. Many others pirated the style in the next decade. There’s a lively interplay between its curves and scrolls. The legs that curve inward derive from pictures of ancient Greek seating furniture. To increase their strength, the cabinetmaker sawed the wood at a diagonal. Metal specialists made the exceptional inlaid brass decorations on this sofa. These details would have flickered in the candlelight of a room in the early 1800s, as well as in the Tulsa apartment of Julian Wood Glass Jr.
