Portrait of a Member of the Wood Family, Possibly Brigadier General James Wood Jr. or Dr. James Wood

The exact identities of both the artist and subject of this small profile portrait remain questionable. The painting descended in the extended Wood family, who believed it to be the likeness of James Wood Jr., son of the founder of Winchester and the Glen Burnie Historic House and an eventual governor of Virginia. It is more likely, however, that this painting is a portrait of James Wood Jr.’s nephew, Dr. James Wood, son of his brother Robert.
