Portrait of a Gentleman

Date: ca. early 1650s

Gerard Terborch is one the best known seventeenth-century Dutch artists. He often isolated his sitters against a neutral background, as here. This portrait of Gaspar van Kinschot was part of a set that included an image of a woman, likely his wife. The portraits were separated sometime before 1939.
