Pair of Card Tables

Date: 1790 - 1805

Bellflower designs point downward on most furniture of this era. But take a look at these tables. Here the flowers climb the legs and point upward. This quirky motif links these tables with a wine cooler, sofa, and sideboard that have the same details. Since an 1807 Glen Burnie Historic House estate inventory proves the ownership of these tables, their little bellflower reveals the likely origin of the entire group. These tables have witnessed more than 200 years of history in the Glen Burnie Historic House. Museum benefactor Julian Wood Glass Jr.
