George Washington Tuckerman

Date: ca. 1811

William and George Washington Tuckerman were the sons of Edward Tuckerman II, a member of a prominent Boston family. Like their father, William and George Tuckerman were merchants. Also just like their father, they sat for the Dutch-born artist Gerrit Schipper early in the 1800s. A securely identified portrait of Edward Tuckerman II, painted for the family as a duplicate after Schipper’s original, is in the collection of the Worcester Art Museum. Other similar portraits of varying authenticity and ages have appeared over the years in different branches of this large family.
