Date: 1960s
This object is typical of this artist’s ceramic folk art scenes of everyday life. It shows four field workers and a dog resting beside a fence where a child sits. Billy Landis also made ceramic objects that depicted people he knew. This artist also painted a large mural of an Indian village in a school. Billy Landis was eighty-four years old when he died on Christmas Day of 1990. His death notice in the local newspaper said, “he owned and operated the Landis Cannery and General Store at Mount Jackson and was a painter and sculptor.”
