1867 - 1936

Date: ca. 1887 - 1936

The handle on this basket is an oak stave that reaches down to, but does not follow across, the bottom of the basket. The basket has a flared base, a pronounced rim, and a rounded shape overall. The shape and size of this basket would have made it useful for a number of different carrying or storage needs. Maker Thomas Nicholson’s sunny disposition earned his nickname “Happy Jack.”  It is not known where he learned to make baskets, but it is likely that his father taught him.
