Albrecht Dürer was the greatest artist of the High Renaissance in Germany and certainly one of the finest artists ever to work in the graphic arts, as Adam and Eve attests. Besides printmaking, Dürer’s skills encompassed painting, drawing, engraving, and theoretical writing. He grew up in Nuremberg, home of an important printmaking tradition, and first apprenticed to his father, a goldsmith.
