It’s cold and flu season, which means people turn to their preferred doctor to alleviate coughing, sore throats, runny noses, and worse. In late 1800s and early 1900s Winchester, one of the men who filled that role was Dr. William Joseph Whitlock (1849-1921). An herbal physician and his own best salesman, Whitlock left behind several small medicine cabinets that advertised his “Whitlocks’ Renowned Remedies,” including one in the MSV Collection.

Celebrate New Year’s Eve at the MSV! On this special Monday opening, MSV admission and the entertainment is FREE to MSV Members, kids ages 12 and under, and to all wearing a 2019 First Night Winchester button.

Make party hats from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and enjoy face painting and balloons from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and family-oriented magic shows at noon, 2 and 3 p.m.

Free to MSV Members and ages 12 & under attending First Night activites held at the MSV only (MSV Members and ages 6 & over must purchase First Night buttons to participate in First Night activites outside of the MSV). All others: free with the purchase or presentation of a First Night Winchester button. First Night buttons will be available for puchase in the Museum Store ($10) December 21-31.
