During this week-long summer camp (July 23–27), kids (rising 1st –4th graders) will create original art while learning to work with a wide variety of materials. Participants will explore the MSV exhibitions and use the Makerspace Studio. Beginners welcome. MSV Members $100; all others: $120 (includes all supplies). Calling all grown-up LEGO lovers! This “no kids allowed” night includes wine/beer, an exclusive after-hours opportunity to see Nature Connects®: Art with LEGO® Bricks, and team-building challenges using LEGO bricks and LEGO robotics.

MSV Members: $25; all others: $35 (includes exhibition admission and one drink ticket). Additional drinks available for purchase ($4). Registration required by July 16; register online or call 540-662-1473 ext. 240. For ages 21 and over; identification required. Rain date: July 2.

Inspired by the many birds featured in Nature Connects: Art with LEGO Bricks, pairs composed of an adult plus a child (ages 6–10) will design and build their own birdhouse to take home. After completing the birdhouse, walk through the MSV gardens to view real and LEGO brick birds. Led by Marshall McFarland, MSV lead educator.

In celebration of the many birds featured in Nature Connects: Art with LEGO Bricks, participants will explore natural elements in the MSV gardens and view bird life on the property with Shenandoah Valley Audubon President Jim Smith. After the walk, enjoy an illustrated presentation by the Shenandoah Valley Audubon Society focusing on bird identification.

Rising 5th through 8th graders will explore the Glen Burnie House, learn about its many changes over the centuries, and examine blueprints and building plans to learn about how a building is designed. Then they will use LEGO bricks to design their own floor plans and draw their own “blueprints” to take home. With instructor Joel Richardson, project manager, Reader & Swartz Architects.

Take a garden tour with MSV Director of Gardens Perry Mathewes before the grounds open go the public. Perry will highlight the flowers and animals featured in the outdoor exhibition Nature Connects: Art with LEGO Bricks.
