Celebrate National Trails Day with FREE activities and outdoor fun for all ages! Plant a tree, discover a new art installation along the trails, join a yoga session, explore nature activity stops, or ride alongside the WPD Bicycle Patrol. Kids can test their skills on a bike obstacle course, and everyone’s encouraged to bike to the event—BikeWalk Winchester will offer free Bike Valet service.
Donut Dive, Taqueria La Mexicana, and Something About Her Lemonade will be on-site with delicious treats available for purchase.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Yoga at the Stone Circle led by Mandy Loy
- 9 a.m. session for ages 18+ (bring a mat)
- 10 a.m.: session geared towards families/kids (bring a mat)
Sculpture Unveiling
- 9:30 a.m. See & celebrate Bamboo Forest, the newest art installation on the Trails with an informal ceremony featuring comments from MSV Executive Director & CEO Scott Stroh (just beyond the picnic mounds near the circle around the Osage orange tree).
Plant a Tree on the Trails
- 10–11:30 a.m.: Plant an oak, hickory, or maple tree in the park with MSV garden staff. Fun for families, this opportunity is being offered on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last (trees are being planted along the trails behind the galleries building)
THROUGHOUT THE MORNING 9 a.m.–noon:
Hiking & family activities along the Trails:
- Near the floating Wetlands Boardwalk: wetlands scavenger hunt & nature wand making
- Bark and leaf identification near the Oak Hickory Allée
- Trail behind the galleries building: paint & take a mini flower pot near the tree house
Bicycle Obstacle Course & Trail Bike Rides with Winchester City Police: (staff parking lot beside the galleries building)
- Bicycle obstacle course setup (in the parking lot)
- Trails bike rides with police officers
- Meet McGruff the crime dog
- Fingerprinting
Winchester Parks and Recreation (patio beside galleries building)
- Kids Activity
Bike Valet (patio beside galleries building)
- BikeWalk Winchester will be offering free Bicycle Valet service (ride to the MSV and check your bicycle while you hike and enjoy the gardens and main galleries)
Bike Check Ups from Blue Ridge Bicycles (patio beside galleries building)
- Free bicycle check ups from the experts at Blue Ridge Bicycles
