Join two scholars for this online program about Lucy Diggs Slowe, a native of Berryville, VA, educator, athlete, and the first Black woman to serve as Dean of Women at any American university. Dr. Amy Quarkume will discuss how Slowe’s speeches, articles, and letters demonstrate Slowe’s fears, hopes, and determination and Tamara Beauboeuf-Lafontant will explore Slowe’s career as the Dean of Women at Howard University from 1922–1937.
