Marquetta Witherall Mitchell

Marquetta Witherall Mitchell was a student at the Sunset Hill School and grew up in a family of schoolteachers who educated generations of Strasburg children. She graduated from Strasburg High School, and with her now husband, was among the first Black students to integrate the public schools. After a career as a financial advisor, she, her husband Willy, and others have researched, documented, and begun the process of sharing the history of the Queen Street and Sunset Hill School with the community including the successful effort to install a state historical marker at the School building in November of 2020.
