Make a wreath with fresh greenery while enjoying hot cocoa.

Youth in grades 5 through 8 will explore prints featured in the exhibition Albrecht Dürer and Master Prints and learn about printmaking techniques.

During this three-day camp, youth (rising 5th through 8th graders) will learn about creating and programming robots with LEGO® brick MINDSTORMS® kits. Participants will work in small groups to build robots that can accomplish various tasks and will explore the exhibition Nature Connects®: Art with LEGO® Bricks on view in the MSV seven-acre gardens. Led by instructor and Lord Fairfax Community College IT Specialist Arash Rohanimanesh.

In celebration of Hear My Voice: Native American Art of the Past & Present, students will learn to create and make their own native American themed earrings using wire, abalone beads, Naa-set and dentalium shells. Led by Native American artist, Laurae Hughes-Cummings. All materials provided.

Explore the numerous themes behind Native American art as you learn to paint on a leather “tapestry” during this one-day workshop. Led by Native American artist and instructor, René Locklear White.  Rene’ will guide you in painting a unique leather wall-hanging for your home. Like a magical lens, this “art in nature” class will help you see our Shenandoah Valley in a new way. Using local images of mountains, trees, wildlife and flowers, learn how to paint a traditional medicine-wheel on leather animal-hides. René Locklear White is a Lumbee artist and 22-year military veteran. Her art is primarily gourd art and art therapy. She also enjoys photography and painting. René likes to refer to herself as an event artist. Her vision is helping other artists achieve success.

Learn about the history and modern methods of keeping plants under glass, then construct your own open-faced terrarium and fill it with miniature spring bulbs, flowers, and groundcovers. Enjoy wine during the workshop. All tools and materials provided.

Learn formulas and techniques for cleaning your silver flatware and jewelry without harsh chemicals in this hands-on workshop led by MSV Director of Collections Management and Registration Kyle Bryner. Participants will receive a sample of cleaner to take home.

Learn weaving techniques to create two bracelets using a wood hoop during this workshop with master weaver and basket designer Anne Bowers. Beginners welcome.

Anne Bowers is from the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia where she has worked in her studio designing, teaching, and learning basketry techniques over the last 34 years. Anne's work has been on display in basket exhibits and has received numerous awards, including an award from Tamarack for being outstanding in the skills of basketry.  As a member of the National Basketry Organization, Anne has taught the art of basketry and has lectured on the woven form.
