Watch Stand

Date: 1853

This watch stand is a fine example of potter Anthony Bacher at his best and most whimsical.  The stand has four sides, with the front side shown here.  It features a farmer figure perched at the top.  The farmer wears a hat, and holds a duck in his arms.  Other animals—foxes, dogs, sheep, and a cat—surround him and also appear at the bottom of the stand.  The watch was placed inside the stand, where the watch face was then visible through the small window in the front.
