A Fishing Camp Along the Shenandoah

Date: ca. 1959

This scene of a man and boy walking toward their fishing camp is part of a group of landscape paintings Garnet Jex completed of the West Virginia panhandle.  A longtime resident of Arlington, Virginia, Jex began traveling to Harpers Ferry in the early 1920s. There he painted many scenes of the town and its surrounding area. In 1967, Jex wrote a letter to the owner of this painting. In it, he indicated the scene is located just north of Route 9, along the road leading to Millville.
